Water babe Kate Lewis has battled back from a crippling knee injury to a place in the Great Britain World Championship water-polo team.

Kate from Hoyton tore the cartilage in her right knee making a simple move at the fitness centre where she works, ten days before Christmas.

When she failed to shake off the pain after a couple of weeks she sought specialist advice and found she needed surgery.

It was not a simple tear and needed stitching, so doctors warned her that it would be five months before she could exercise again – a schedule that meant it would be perilously close to the world championship events.

But she managed to get back into training a month early – and sets off next Friday for the Championships.
